With energy costs taking such a huge bite out of the monthly budget, it's little surprise that energy efficiency is the top consideration among those who are considering insulation options.

How do you choose the right insulation?

R-value offers a highly recognizable standard for comparing an insulation's energy efficiency. R-Value helps us “compare by numbers” in that the higher the number, the better the insulation is at reducing energy loss. The truth is, building science tells us there are major leaks in the R-value story. R-value measures an insulation's ability to inhibit conductive heat flow but it doesn't address the primary method of heat transfer – air leakage (convection), which causes up to 40% of building energy loss.

Using Icynene® soft foam insulation and air barrier system is one of the best ways to improve energy efficiency and thermal comfort.  As a complete insulation and air barrier, Icynene minimizes air leakage in the building structure, which allows for HVAC equipment rightsizing.  This saves dramatically on initial equipment costs and ongoing utility costs - Icynene can save up to 50% every month in energy costs versus traditional energy options.
